Working nightshifts can really take a toll on your health. And it looks like I’m not gonna be on a normal schedule anytime soon, the least that I can do for my body is to eat healthy. That has been may resolve lately, and so fruits, vegetables, and fish have been the focus of attention at the grocery store.
Alright, while I’m at it, why not take it a little further…. let me DRINK to good health too! Squeezed fruit and vegetable juices are conveniently available nowadays and its super easy to grab a bottle or carton if you want some. So which one should I get… carrot or tomato? Maybe I need lycopene more so let me have the tomato juice.
Two days ago was the true test. I poured a tall glass of the chilled juice and feeling good about myself, I bravely took the first sip. And boy, did it make me gag! I didn’t know tomato can be this slimy…. it had the taste of raw fish mixed with okra extract. Yuck! Why didn’t I choose the carrot juice! Remorse remorse! I was almost scared to take a second sip yet I cant bring myself to just pour it down the sink. I was torn between walking away unscathed but with a nagging conscience for wasting away precious bloody lycopene and taking it in stride, get it done and over with! I’m doing this for lycopene! I repeated the thought over and over in my head and managed to gulp the glutinous substance quickly in controlled breathing. Success!
I dunno if I’ll ever acquire a taste for tomato juice. If I continue drinking it for a few weeks then maybe. Each time I open the refrigerator and see this pariah of a juice in the corner, I almost always cringe. The experience lingers more than the taste. Lycopene… I’d rather eat you than gulp you down again! I think I need betacarotene more this time….
I am not a very good dancer but I so love dancing. When I was in grade school, I was a member of the dance troupe but most of the time I was just among the back ups or what I otherwise call the “chuwariwaps” hehehe. The most glamorous dance number so far that I took part in was the company’s christmas party presentation four years ago and that time I wasn’t a back up… I was in the front row. You may say that’s brave, but I had a thick makeup that hid my identity.
For a wishful, trying hard dancer like me, it is captivating to see dancers who can gracefully glide with the flow of music making it seem effortless and dreamlike. That’s what I thought when I saw this number in So You Think You Can Dance?
I loved this pair – Danny Tidwell and Anya Garnis. I loved her moves, the way she smiled and connected with her partner, but Anya was eventually eliminated mid way through the competition. Danny went on to the finals but failed to grab the top prize.
Sandra Johnson was declared the grand champ. She’s a brilliant dancer and was also one of my favorites. I particularly loved this number with Neil Haskell, which is a marriage of dance, gymnastics, and storytelling. Watch to see what I mean! Its absolutely amazing:
These performances are from the 3rd season but a few that really made a mark. Now, don’t we all wish we can dance like these pairs?
Wilson have these odoriferous ears and they’d always been that way from the day we took him in. We thought that cleaning them regularly would put an end to the awful smell but unfortunately for all of us, WIlson’s ears remained stinky and dirty even after a good warm bath. It was time to get professional help.
Last Saturday, we took him to Animal House. We spent a few minutes mingling with other dogs at the waiting area which kinda diffused Wilson’s nervousness. He has come to associate the clinic for injections and confinement. When we were called in, he suddenly became agitated again but it wasn’t long before he was discharged. We went home with antibiotics and ear drops for the fungi thriving in our dog’s ears. Now, its a two weeks ahead of medication ordeal. We started with the ear drops last night and Wilson didnt seem to bother. In fact, he seemed to be thankful that his human owners had finally understood what he’d been going through all this time.
Its a good thing that we had him checked before the infection became severe. But we still wish we had read the signs earlier and spared Wilson from itchy odorous ears.
I have a confession to make. I haven’t read a book for a lllooooonnnnnggggg time. Or… haven’t finished reading one, would be more appropriate. This is a fact that had taken me, well, until this October dawn to finally admit.
Why only now? I was staring into a blank wall trying to get myself back to sleep when my sight shifted to the bookshelf. A thought struck… what was the last book that I really finished reading? Ahhh…. I cant even remember. Tsk. Im turning into a brainless bum.
Ironically, haven’t given up on buying then stocking them up on the shelf hehehe. I’ve got a number that are still unwrapped from the clear plastic that I purchased them in. Nightshift was an easy excuse to abandon some of the things that I loved doing, and reading is up in the list. Most often than not, I’d doze off before finishing a single chapter. To compensate for my lack of book reading, and to stifle that nagging inner voice, I turned to magazines and online materials. Its like fastfood. Just filling up your famished self but not actually relishing the process. Also, mags and internet posts are often graphic saving you half of the reading. Just scan through the pictures and more or less you get an idea of the what is being discussed. Buying… collecting…magazines… kinda spurred me into a prolonged denial stage.
I can almost hear my books clamoring for rescue. I gotta pick up one, and persevere reading it from cover to cover! Hi, books! Welcome me back!
